Female dengue patient in Khulna, 398 hospitalised countrywide

Shawdesh Desk: A woman died of dengue at Khulna Medical College Hospital while 398 new patients were hospitalised across the country in 24 hours till Wednesday morning.

Khulna correspondent of the news agency reported that Lovely Akhter, 30, wife of Jamir Ali of village Baliadanga of Keshabpur in Jashore died of dengue early Wednesday.

Shoilendranath Biswas, a resident physician of the KMCH, said Lovely was admitted to the hospital with dengue on Tuesday evening and she died around 2:30am.

According to the district civil surgeon office, 16 people have so far died of dengue in the district.

A total of 398 new patients, including 131 in Dhaka, were hospitalised across the country in 24 hours till Wednesday morning, according to Directorate General of Health Services report.

Bangladesh has seen a massive outbreak of mosquito-borne disease dengue this year. But the situation started improving from the beginning of September with relatively low number of new cases.

Since January, 86,155 people were hospitalised with dengue, most of them in Dhaka. Of them, 84,186 have made full recovery.

Since the beginning of this year, the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research received information about 224 dengue-related deaths. It has so far reviewed 126 cases and confirmed 75 dengue deaths.
